Dear WTCPUA Customers,
The West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) has identified a possible leak on one of the two raw water transmission lines that carry water from Lake Austin to the Uplands Water Treatment Plant. WTCPUA is informing all customers in advance of these possible repairs so that everyone can prepare.
What's happening
- Wednesday, October 7, 2026: WTCPUA will begin small, targeted excavations along the raw water line to find and confirm the source of the leak.
- If a leak is confirmed: The line will be taken out of service and drained. Because of the line's size, draining will take about 15 hours. Repairs will begin as soon as the line is empty.
- 24-hour repair efforts: If repairs are required, WTCPUA staff will work day and night to finish repairs and return the line to service as quickly as possible.
What this means for you
During the investigation and any needed repairs, the water treatment plant will operate at reduced capacity. To protect water service for everyone, WTCPUA will temporarily move to Stage 4 watering restrictions starting Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
- Turn off automatic irrigation systems, including drip, and hose-end sprinklers. All lawn and landscape irrigation will be temporarily suspended.
- Limit non-essential water use. During this time, we ask all customers to avoid unnecessary water use so capacity remains available for essential needs such as cooking, bathing, and washing clothes and dishes.
Staying informed
We will send a reminder on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and will let you know when repairs are complete and restrictions can be eased. We plan to move to a lower restriction Stage as soon as reasonably possible.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we address these critical infrastructure repairs.
