While recent rainfall has increased water levels in Lake Travis, the West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) will continue Stage 2 drought restrictions, allowing for outdoor watering no more than once per week, through at least October 1, 2025.
Why Restrictions Are Still Needed
The PUA board has elected to remain in Stage 2 Watering restrictions due to our limited plant capacity and the ability to keep up with peak irrigation demands. We have enough capacity to produce, pump, store and deliver water to all of our customers on a daily average use basis. It is difficult to maintain peak irrigation demands during the summer months.
We are currently limited to 20 mgd plant capacity. We have Capital Improvements scheduled to increase the water treatment plant to 33 mgd but we are delayed due to permitting and design complications. The new plant is scheduled to be online in early 2028. Until that time, we must manage the summer irrigation demands with best management practices to ensure that all of our customers have water available for their primary household needs.
